Give Yourself a Cookie
Freelancing is hard. Sometimes we make easily preventable mistakes, like forgetting to save before closing. When that happens, have a cookie.Have you ever forgotten to save a document before closing?
Last week I was working on revisions for a client. I had the client notes open in one window and the document in another. After making changes to the entire ten-page document, I closed the notes — this is where things went wrong.
The prompt showed up asking if I wanted to “save changes.” Thinking I was in the notes document, I said no. Just like that, both documents were gone — all the work was lost.
After feeling like a complete idiot for about 47 seconds, I opened both the notes and the document and got back to work. Thankfully, the rewrites took a fraction of the original time since everything was still fresh in some part of my brain. Needless to say, I’ll make sure I’m saving frequently moving forward (or, at least for the next few days).
Today is National Homemade Cookies Day. If you’ve ever had a moment where you, too, forgot to save, then treat yourself to a cookie today. We all make easily preventable mistakes. When they happen, we just need to brush them off and move forward. Then, enjoy a cookie because things could be worse.
Go have a cookie, my friend.
