This Just in Comes Home

If you've been following my writing for a while, you know I've been rebuilding my website with Ghost. It began as a Substack lifeboat but became a full-fledged transformation. Today, I'm excited to announce This Just In, my very infrequent personal newsletter, is now hosted, managed, and sent directly from my website!

While This Week In Writing remains on Substack, self-hosting This Just In lets me work out potential bugs and lays the groundwork for moving everything here. This Just In sends out sporadically when I have something to share, like today's news.

This Just In has been sent through multiple service providers over the years. They all required my work to be hosted and live on another company's servers. It now lives solely on my website, hosted on an Opalstack server I manage. This gives me complete control of my words and ensures I'm not at the whims of a company shutting down their service -- I'm looking at you, Revue.

As part of the move, This Just In is now exclusively available on my website and to subscribers. It will not be cross-posted to Medium, Substack, or any other platform. I will continue cross-posting This Week In Writing and my other articles, but This Just In is now a subscriber exclusive.

This Just In living solely on my website also means that your contact information is only accessible by me. While I would like to trust Substack to maintain their records' security, there is no telling how things work behind the scenes. I can assure you that your privacy is important to me, and the email list is safe. No one else has access to the database besides me, and I intend to keep it that way.

The other thing that's important to me about self-hosting my newsletter is there are no additional subscription fees. Substack takes 10% of all paid subscriptions. While I understand it, that 10% cut makes a big difference to my modest subscription revenue. Self-hosting my newsletter means Stripe is the only company getting a cut.

Join me in celebrating this exciting move by taking a 10% discount on an annual subscription! Support my work and enjoy the full benefits of being a member.

By signing up with the Goodbye Substack offer, you will gain access to My Writing Community on Discord and be able to engage with my articles by commenting. While anyone can reply to my emails, article commenting on the site is reserved for paid subscribers, ensuring a spam-free environment. Celebrate the move from Substack and become a subscriber today!

This offer is available for a limited time to celebrate the full relaunch of This Just In.

Since my whole reason for writing is to engage with you, I want to know what you want to see out of future issues of This Just In, This Week In Writing, or anything else I produce. Hit reply to this email and let me know. I look forward to connecting with you.

Thanks for being part of this journey with me.
