I meant to post this awhile back, but I left for Nicaragua the day after it aired so whatever. It’s pretty awesome.
It all started when Serious Lunch made the allegation that Conan O’Brien’s new backdrop was inspired by Super Mario Bros. It was then picked up by Gizmodo (where I saw it) and eventually, within hours, made it’s way to The Tonight Show.
This. Is. Awesome.
Was it done on purpose or is Conan’s backdrop one massive coincidence? You be the judge.
If you didn’t watch Conan begin his new gig on The Tonight Show last night then shame on you. I’ve watched the “cold open” a few times now and have included it below for your viewing enjoyment. It’s classic.
After seventeen years, Jay Leno is FINALLY leaving The Tonight Show, a move that has been five years in the making. While there is really only one thing about Leno’s show that’s funny — Headlines — I’ve been watching bits and pieces over the last week to see just how he’s going to close things out. Conan, his replacement, closed things off with two weeks to destroying the set, classic remotes, hilarious videos and a heartfelt and classy thank you session. Leno, on the other hand, has shown a few video montages of fake interviews, politicians who have appeared on Tonight, and Leno talking to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Not exactly funny stuff or really anything all that memorable. Either there isn’t anything clip worthy in Leno’s seventeen years or the guy has no idea how to properly close things out. This, of course, might have something to do with the fact that he’s not actually going anywhere and all that’s really changing is the name and time of his show. But that horrible decision is subject for another day.
Disdain much?
So I ask, on Jay Leno’s final episode of The Tonight Show does anyone care? Or are you just happy that it means we’re only three days away from The Tonight Show with Conan O’Biren?
Update: While it may look like I have basically stolen TV Squad’s post idea here, I’ll have you know that I originally wrote this last night at 10:52 pm. So, if anything, they stole my idea. Ha! Take that interwebs!
Today is my one year Twitterversery. I had this really cool idea to celebrate by loading my complete Twitter stream and then get a giant screen capture and post it here. But as is usually the case, Murphy showed up and prevented any such thing. I couldn’t load the entire stream — Twitter stopped my efforts around last July — and then what I did capture couldn’t be compressed into a graphic small enough to actually post. So yeah, big fail.
Just like everything else here, this picture has nothing to do with anything.
So, instead of just letting 3,360 tweets go by without fanfare I decided to change things completely and launch a new site design. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other, but what do you expect from me? Like the Twitterversery I had a whole post planned out to show off the new features this theme brings, like threaded comments. I was going to title it “Change You Can Believe In” and launch it on June 1st to tie in with Conan O’Brien taking over the Tonight Show — see what I did there? Instead, I decided to throw all that out and just say here it is. It’s called Limb Kulers and derives it’s name and colors from guvilla’s Kuler set. Other credit is due and can be found in the CSS stylesheet, if you’re into that sort of thing.
In light of the completely unconnected nature of this post, I’m not going to end it by asking for your take on the new design. No, instead I’m going to close by asking what is a change that you can believe in? Let me know in the comments.
Last night, or technically early this morning, the final episode of Late Night With Conan O’Brien hit the air. He and the band will be moving to LA to take The Tonight Show out of Jay Leno’s cold dead hands. It’s a change long in the making and, frankly, one that needed to be made a long time ago.
Conan’s brand of humor is a hilarious one and has been rocking the 1230 time slot for as long as I can remember — 16 years to be exact. Even though he’s moving onto bigger and better things — at least The Tonight Show was a big thing until Leno pooped on it — him leaving Late Night is still a sad thing. Though Conan and the crew has been making the final week as hilarious as possible with his favorite clips, montages, and special guests. Below I’ve embedded the final three episodes, for posterity sake. But really because they’re too funny to pass up and who wants to suffer through Hulu’s horrible search engine anyway?
Episode 2723 featuring Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at the premiere of Star Wars: Episode II, Martha Stewart and a 40 oz, and a hilarious blooper real.
Episode 2724 featuring Conan’s memorable moments, Conan’s trip to Finland and Jerry Seinfeld making fun of Leno’s opening credits.
Episode 2725, the final one, featuring Conan’s favorite Late Night segment, Andy Richter and more memorable moments, the White Stripes reunion, and Conan’s heartfelt goodbye.
