WWDC 2007: Preview

WWDC 2007It’s that time again, boys and girls, where Apple fan-boys and geeks all across the land start making predictions about what Steve Jobs is going to announce next. The targeted event is the annual World Wide Developers Conference that starts on Monday out in San Fran. His Jobs-ness is going to kick things off with a keynote and so it’s my job to bore you with my predictions. Here we go.

  1. WWDC 2007 will be all Leopard, all the time. Last year he teased us with 10 features of OS X 10.5 Leopard and on Monday we’ll get to see the full set. How does Time Machine work? Will there be a new interface? How much cooler then Vista will it be? All will be revealed on Monday.
  2. iLife (the wonderful software suite that brings us iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, iWeb, and, er, Garage Band that was expected to be updated at MacWorld but wasn’t) will be discontinued as all of the applications will be a part of OS X.
  3. iWork, the MS Office like suite, will be updated with new developer-friendly features.
  4. There will probably be a comment or two about future third-party love for iPhone applications but it’s probably not ready to roll yet.
  5. There will be no new hardware announced.
  6. Outside shot: Some features of .Mac (sync for example) will be rolled into Leopard while others (email) will be offered at a much reduced price.

There you have it, my super duper WWDC predictions. Make sure to check back next week for my review of the Jobs-note.
